Jobs/Roles
in the ECE Community: National /Federal Level
The first one AIM: Aid to Inmate
Mothers. Their mission is “to provide services to Alabama’s incarcerated
women with emphasis on enhancing personal growth and strengthening the bonds
between inmate mothers and their children” (AIM, 2015). This programs fit well
with my community of practice. I can use this program as example how mother are
allow to keep their infant in prison.
The
second is South Dakota the women’s prison, “they mother infant program
allows the mother who gave birth to keep her infant with for 30 days.
Both mother and infant are kept away from the general population. In order to
participate the mother has to take a parenting class. Other education
classes for women inmates are one that focuses on child’s behavior from 0 to 18
and a TOT’s program that focus on development of children. There is the PACT
(parent and child together) extended visitation. This program allows the
mothers to have their minor children stay with them one weekend a month along
with regular visiting hours. Inmates do have to apply for this program.”(Houck.
R 2015). (http://doc.sd.gov/adult/facilities/wp/mip.aspx) This
program also fit my community practices it also show that program is work for
inmates.
The third is “The Prison Birth Project is an organization focused on
reproductive justice, working to provide education, support, and advocacy to
women at the intersection of the
criminal justice system and motherhood. Our
goal is to provide tools to help incarcerated and previously incarcerated women
make empowering birth choices, and to provide continuous care through the
transition into parenting. Previously incarcerated folks, mothers, and those
most affected by the issues and mission of The Prison Birth Project are
encouraged to volunteer, though all are welcome!”(theprisonbirthproject.org, 2015)
For all these organization their no job opportunities.
They all do offer volunteer opportunities in their programs. I found that is
great for me because I can learn a lot from each this organization just
volunteering my time and helping families.
