Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community: Internationally

Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community: Internationally

The Early Childhood Development caught my interest because it work with mother of Nepal that are in prison. “ECDC is dedicated to helping the children of imprisoned parents in Nepal, many of whom were living inside the jails alongside their mothers. This is no place for children and we are committed to giving them the shelter and education needed to break the cycle of crime and poverty. ECDC's Butterfly home provides these children a safe and nurturing environment where they can spread their wings to discover a brighter future.”(ecdcnepal.org 2015)

The next organization is Quaker United Nations Office (QUNO) “QUNO staff work with people in the UN, multilateral organizations, government delegations, and non-governmental organizations, to achieve changes in international standards and practice. Quakers are known for speaking out against injustice and war - issues that are incompatible with our vision of a world in which peace and justice prevail”. (quno.org 2015)  I choose this organization because of their interest children of prisoners and women in prison.

The last organization is Save the Children Save the Children invests in childhood – every day, in times of crisis and for our future. In the United States and around the world, we give children a healthy start, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. By transforming children's lives now, we change the course of their future and ours.”(savethechildren.org) I choose organization because of their supporting children worldwide.

I saw one job that look interesting that was with Quaker United Nations Office programme assistant for September 2015 to August 2016. This is an opportunity for a person in sympathy with Quaker approaches and with an interest in international affairs and in international organizations. You would experience a range of international work, while working primarily as an assistant to QUNO’s Representative for Human Rights and Refugees in her work, which focuses on children of incarcerated parents (including children of parents sentenced to death), conscientious objection to military service and refugee protection. (quno.org. 2015)

  1. Hello,
I enjoyed reading the international organizations you found. I think this are really great as they support the challenge you are working towards in our class. I really found the EDC of Nepal intriguing. It just shows the reality of these type of situations happening not only in the US, but across the world.
    Great work, Tierra Jackson

  2. Hi Raejean,

Thank you for your interesting blog. In fact, I have enjoyed reading it and I have found learning about QUNO very useful. I live in Lebanon which is a small country in the Middle East surrounded with many political conflicts and on-going wars. I believe that organizations like QUNO strongly support communities/governments to understand the destructive consequences of conflicts and wars on the overall well-being of children. Honestly, in my current position, I am witnessing the dramatic effects of wars on children that are causing them a lot of harm including but not limited to being exploitation, neglect, and violence; not to forget many children living in the streets and having no access to education, food, clean water, and shelter.

    Thanks,
    Rawana

  3. Reajean,
I am amazed at the international organization you found working with imprisoned mothers of Nepal. Providing them with education to break the cycle of generational poverty and crime is a great way to provide these mothers with encouragement and a better future. We have a local facility that helps mothers and children here in the Tampa, Florida area that is similar to this international organization. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Dear Raejean
I think the organization The Early Childhood Development Center appears to be great programs that is much needed. I think this is a population of children that are forgotten sometimes. I have not heard of this particular program before and glad to see that they saw a need for this in other countries. I know I have heard of some organizations that do this is the United States. There is a program here in my county that helps support the women and children of men who are incarcerated. They promote trying to maintain the family unit even with the absence of the father in the home. The Nepal program I great as it provides a place of nurturing and care for children who are left without any parents. I am sure they also are making sure to take care of those emotional needs of children as they grow and develop along with physical needs. They are stepping in as surrogate parents much like teachers and other professionals that have great influence in the life of a child.
