Parent, Family, and Community Engagement

Parent, Family, and Community Engagement

I was drew to the stories because each of them gave testimony how Head Start change their lives. It was good to see how parent appreciate the program.

Involvement is a good opportunity for parents and family member’s benefits young children, families, and early childhood field because, when you are involve in your child’s education. Its shows you how to provide the best education for your child. It help us if your  child has special need you get  services  for them  and you can get step by step understanding of the services and you  can  advocates the  services faster because you are there at school to talk to the appropriate people. In the Head start programs it provides a job opportunity.  Also, getting on policy counsel helps   u to provide policy for school to help the school quality and give you the opportunity to interact with community and state official to make schools better. You also get to the opportunity to travel to conference to learn strategies about education your child.

The value of hearing these story for early childhood professional it show how parents and teachers  can work together to support the child. Also when the programs are successful the community leader can advocate for more program in the community to help family.

I feel that family involvement is essential for all strand in the early childhood field. The Head Start model is the best one because it incorporate all aspect of the family.  For example, whoever is important to the child in the family like grand mom, grand pop, mom, dad, aunt and uncle head start support the whole family.  As a teacher in early head start program I see how my parents are involve with every aspect of the program from being on policy counsel, helping teachers plan events, and volunteering in classroom

  1. I come to the realize that every child and family has a story to share. The sharing in the stories will assist other families who may just have similar situations. As from a professional stand point, this will prepare ECE professionals to be a good listener, pay attention to any patterns, receive all the facts- basically due diligence- and provide adequate resources and referrals to the children and families.

  3. When I worked at Head Start I found the Policy Council to be an incredible source of empowerment for the parents. For many of them it was the first time they held any sort of official position or office with responsibilities. One father told me it was the first time in his life he saw people have differences of opinion without arguing. He said it changed his whole perspective on communication. These are some of the intangible benefits that programs like Head Start offer the people they serve.
