What Resonates With You About Early Childhood Public Policy and Advocacy?

What Resonates With You About Early Childhood Public Policy and Advocacy?

Part 1 Why I did choose this specialization?   After I finish my Master of Education Degree. I was looking for  program  doctorate degree I came across  for public policy in ECE.I decide to take that instead on going for my doctorate degree.  I feel that advocate children and families is what I do every day. I want to learn more about public policy so I can speak community leaders and government leader to talk about the important of early learning.

Part 2 Why are advocates essential in the early childhood field?

Advocates are essential in the early childhood field we are teaching future leader of tomorrow. Advocates are the people who advocate for the field of early learning.  People who advocates give the voice for children, families, teachers who are involved in the early children field. They also tell the politicians what we need in the field for example, for more funding for programs.

Part 3 What do you hope to learn about policy and advocacy?

I hope to learn more about the how public policy work and how can use in my community. I want to take the knowledge that I learn from this class and work with different organization to advocate for more funding for early childhood education.  Also I want work with community leaders to advocate for more quality childcare programs.

  1. Welcome to the class, I enjoyed reading your blog posting. Nice to see we are on the same page wanting to improve our local communities for health, safety, and well-being of children.

  2. Hi Raejean-
Advocacy is such important work for the early childhood profession. I love knowing that there are so many people that care about this issue that is so important to me as well!

One way that I have found to make a quick and easy impact is to go to www.votesmart.org and find the elected officials who represent me. I send them emails to tell them how I feel about issues in early childood that are prevalent (such as a policy that is up for a vote) and request that they tell me their position, so that I can start a dialogue with them. They almost always answer thoughtfully and sometimes invite me to engage with them further. It is surprisingly effective!

  3. Dear Raejean

I had the same "quandary" after completing my undergrads what was o going to peruse, what Is the best course of action? Your are definitely correct about about advocates being essential to early childhood profession, they are the ones who speak on behalf of our children who have not been given a voice. Therefore our role as advocator is very important in its execution because of how our children can and are being effected. This is why I too want to see how public policy works so I can see what I can do to improve programs.
